The danger for the consultant is how easy assumptions can creep in, based on our own history and life experience. The quick fix is to naively force a program on whatever the current situation is and offer a simple “Five-Principles-For-Guaranteed-Success.” But like human beings with our internal, complex interdependencies of motivation, personality, leadership style, self-awareness and so forth, organizations have even more challenging issues… especially since they’re made up of lots of human beings! A therapeutic approach takes the time to empathically learn the inner-workings of the organization in order to peel off the layers blocking the flow of innovation, impact and effectiveness.
It took you years to plateau; getting unstuck will never be a quick fix.
